Today’s ruling coalition, despite talks about how they see Slovakia firmly anchored in the structures of the European Union, is doing the absolute opposite. All their actions so far, such as the attempt to suppress people’s and media’s access to information, the legalization of anti-social criminal activity, the attempt to destroy independent control institutions, the transfer and pure centralization of power only in the parliament, are in absolute contradiction to EU values.
Despite the existence of independent organizations and experts in many fields, they create and push laws by force, as only the ministers for individual departments want. Anyone who expresses an opinion supported by facts and observations is subjected to condemnation and criticism. A state is emerging here that is not sovereign, where experts are only those who agree with the minister’s single opinion without scientific facts and studies. The only direction is the direction and support of Russia.
Slovakia is a state in which people voluntarily chose the sides of unfreedom, totalitarianism and autocracy. Values that have nothing to do with democracy, individual freedom and the market. It is definitely questionable how we allow ourselves to keep asking for money from the social funds of the European Union when our values are in direct conflict. It is also questionable how we can be a permanent part of the given grouping.
On social networks, one can clearly see the preponderance of efforts to drag Slovakia towards Russia. There are many groups pretending to be “civic media” that only repeat what a politician of the government coalition wrote on another social network and reproduce this “opinion” without subjecting it to analysis and control. It is about the multiplication and saturation of social networks with a single pro-government opinion. These are pro-Russian bots.
At the same time, efforts to suppress the uncontrolled proliferation of such oversaturation are being cancelled. Organizations that checked and marked hoax, false information and “deep fake” are abolished. Slovakia has long suffered from the departure of educated people, and support for education is at a minimal level. This is how people with a purely subjective perception, without trying to look for facts, objective, substantiated information, are maintained in this country.
The future of such an unstable country is questionable.
