Slovakia in ruins

It’s not like that yet, but it will be.

The fact that populists won the elections again is not surprising. It happens in many countries. Mainly as citizens’ defiance and a demonstration that they want other topics to be addressed as well. Unfortunately, populists which won in Slovakia, are re-elected and brought nothing new. Many are accused of committing anti-social crimes such as corruption, bribery, organizing a criminal group, and if some of them had not already been convicted, they would be here too.

Their behavior only gets worse with each subsequent election period. Already at the beginning, since 2006, it was about denying clientelism and cases without argumentation. Many cases, from the first period, caused that we did not see some ministers for further periods. Since 2012, it has been a one-party government, where many laws, rules and regulations have been amended and people from the direction have been appointed to all ministries, administrative boards and the like. At the same time, independent journalists and non-profit organizations have become enemy number one. After 2016, an unstable multi-party government emerged. One coalition party broke up completely and the other two still threatened to dissolve the coalition. At the same time, it was a period of complicity in the kidnapping of a Vietnamese businessman from Germany, the murder of an investigative journalist and the subsequent departure of many ministers.

Today, immediately after the election, the actions of left-wing populists are much more brutal. Immediate dismissal of officials and employees of ministries. Cancellation of whistleblower status, cancellation of special prosecutor’s office. Approval of everything possible in an expedited procedure. Defending oneself by violating human rights, without further specifying what and possibly publishing the cases when it happened. Approving the budget, which again takes from private pension savings. Spending money without reason and reasonable reasoning. The creation of another ministry with a vague and unclear content of competence. Efforts to limit the access of independent media to information and statements of politicians. They managed all this in one month and a few days.

The next steps of the left-wing populists are completely clear. Limitation of journalistic impartiality by enforcing the already created “alternative/citizen media”, prosecution of investigators and complete control of the police (control of justice is still in their hands), sweeping and shredding of incriminating materials from the past, limitation of control authorities to only “authorities” and continuation of economic decline countries. This is not an exaggeration, this is the experience with the left-wing populists who have ruled here for 12 years and will, probably, for another 4 years. I leave out the “Meciarism” period. It is interesting that the SNS (Slovak national) party survived all periods of decline and is still active during them. It is the eternal companion of the reigns of decadence.

The president opposed the proposal. She will probably veto them, but we have presidential elections next year. With the blessing of the future president, it would be easier for left-wing populists to approve these “laws”. There is still the European Union and independent institutions in the EU. These do not agree with the given laws and require their withdrawal or change. Unfortunately, these institutions can only freeze subsidies from the European funds and watch. Slovakia will continue to decline and decline. The economy is collapsing like in Greece, with the difference that no one will come to save Slovakia. As an exemplary case and a demonstration of the willingness to strengthen the EU, Slovakia will be excluded from the list of EU states. The euro will leave and the currency that will be created will, perhaps, be at the level of the Serbian dinar.

We can protest and in truth, this is probably the only possible “solution”. Until they arrest everyone as anti-state elements.

The problem that was and is caused by a low understanding of politics, poor education and unwillingness to build one’s own state. Politics is and always will directly affect our lives. Education helps us to understand and understand information in context, to choose sources of information wisely. Education in Slovakia has never been reformed to take into account the present and with a vision for the future.

Once again, we elected politicians with no vision and no effort to improve anything. All they care about is personal gain.
